Year of Giving – Unemployed D.C. Man Spreading Kindness
Think about how many kind things you do for a random stranger on any given day.
It’s tough. Too much crap gets in the way. I would say the only thing I really ever do is hold a door for someone or give my seat to a woman on a crowded subway. That’s about it.
I actually thought the subway thing was pretty good, until I read about what Reed Sandridge is doing. Reed was laid off from his job and told the Washington Post he ”was starting to go nuts.”
So instead of hitting up Career Builder or Monster, he took to the streets … and gave random people money.
Sandridge is giving away $10 each day to a random stranger in an effort to spread kindness. He’s documenting the whole thing on his blog, Year of Giving. It’s an amazing read. Think “The Buried Life” on MTV, but not corny.
So the next time the shepherds at your work are beating up on you, don’t take it out on the world. If Reed was able to make getting laid off a positive thing for the world, you could at least give the seat up to the elderly lady standing next to the 300-pound guy on the C train.
Have a good day, sheep.
