Woman Fired For Having Sex Before Marriage
A fourth grade teacher at a Florida Christian school found herself out of a job for breaking a rule.
She had sex before her marriage.
After Hamilton admitted that her child had been conceived about three weeks before her February 20, 2009, wedding, the school fired her.
Not exactly your every day occupational hazard. Jarretta Hamilton is obviously suing the Southland Christian School, according to the story.
It’s worth noting that this is NOT a she-said, they-said case. Southland administrators are very straight forward in their stance (lying is a sin, too):
“Jarretta was asked not to return because of a moral issue that was disregarded, namely fornication, sex outside of marriage,” the letter reads. “The employment application, which she filled out, clearly states that as a leader before our students we require all teachers to maintain and communicate the values and purpose of our school.”
Gotta admire the school for not trying to weasel out of it. They did, however, have a request at the end of the letter:
“We request that Jarretta withdraw her complaint and consider the testimony of the Lord,” closed the letter.
That definitely would be the high (or Almighty) road. I just have a hard time believing everyone else professionally affiliated with Southland Christian is properly observing all moral issues.
Speaking of disregarding moral issues/occupational hazards, why didn’t Hamilton just lie and say it was an immaculate conception?
Talk about job security…
