Winscape: Fake Windows for your Cubicle

1

There’s finally hope for the cubicle dweller.

The folks over at RationalCraft.com recently constructed and developed a set of fake windows that change the video position as you move around. To make it possible, a person wears an infrared emitting (IR) necklace as they walk around. The software is linked to an IR reader which determines their location and adjusts the video accordingly.

It’s very impressive and offers hope to the many office employees who have no view of the outside world. Rather than decorating your cubicle with reports tacked to the walls, imagine being able to set the view to your next place of vacation. The possibilities are endless.

The only major set-back is the fact that you need two plasma HD TVs, a carpenter to embed the TVs into your wall, and a custom-built IR-emitting necklace used for tracking. OK, so this isn’t exactly ready for the store shelves but does provide some insight to the potential future of “fake windows.”

If you are set on attempting a similar project, the Winscape software is available on their website (Macs only). Of course, everything can be controllable from your iPhone.
