Typeracer.com: Mavis Beacon Comes Full Circle

3

Do you remember the first time you met Mavis Beacon?

I do. I was a young lad. My father came home and pronounced we’d all be proficient typists in no time! We danced around the house with Mavis, excited our lives were about to change forever. Remember the transparent hands? The witty games? Words like “Dreamlessly” that you knew you’d never type again?

I can't go out and play football until I hit 55 words per minute!

Mavis was there for us when we needed her. She made us more proficient typists. I owe at least 15 words per minute to Mavis. I also owe all the glory I’ve received in TypeRacer to Mavis.

What’s Typeracer, you ask?

It’s possibly the most addicting game I’ve found since Sporcle.

Typeracer – fun for the whole office!

The concept is simple and found right in the name of the game. Challenge others to see who can type a paragraph the quickest. The first to finish wins. And, yes, the best part is you can challenge your friends, coworkers, enemies.

Once a race is established, a paragraph will appear and you’re off to the races. You move on to the next work automatically if the word and space after it are hit correctly. The paragraphs are from various novels, including “The Godfather” (The Don’s response to Bonasera’s amazing “I believe in America” monologue). I did notice a repeat paragraph. I hope this doesn’t come up, too much. The repetition can skew everything.

Side note: It’s funny that Typeracer points out how the site can actually improve your typing. While probably true, does anyone really care about that? It’s all about the glory of hitting that triple digit WPM to let your cubemate know who’s boss.

I, Von Kaiser, currently stand at 6-0 versus McFly and 4-1 against Reply All, who seriously thinks he can out perform me…sad.

If you’re looking for a challenge, hit me up. User name is obviously VonKaiser.

Disclosure: This was typed at approximately 100 words per minute.
