The Anti-Affirmative Action All Star Team

1

It seems like every few months, another person of note says something that flies in the face of “Equal Opportunity Employer” philosophy.

The latest is long time radio personality Dr. Laura Schlessinger. But she’s far from the first to spout of something insensitive, intolerant or downright racist.

What baffles us is that should we, the common sheep, be guilty of something like this, it’d likely have a profound impact on our careers. It’d be a swift trip to HR or a punch in the face from an offended coworker. However, that’s not always the case for some of these people of influence.

Without further ado, the Anti-Affirimative Action All Star Team:

Dr. Laura Schlessinger

The offense: In 2010 the radio show host dropped a lot of N-bombs while giving “advice” to a caller.

Career impact: She went on Larry King’s show to announce she would be leaving her show when the contract runs out at the end of the year. But it’s not a retirement: “I will be stronger and freer to say my mind through my books, my YouTube Channel, my blog and my website,” she said. Sounds like a big career dent if you ask us.

Mel Gibson

The offenses: Well, first it was the Jewish faith when he said, “F****** Jews. … Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” Then he did “Edge of Darkness” and then he was crushed by a series of audio tapes released by Oksana Grigorieva. Go listen to them.

Career impact: Besides quitting Hollywood with a dry erase board, Gibson’s been pretty mum. His silence is probably a sign of what’s in store for him for, well, ever. Perhaps we should just refer to him as ghost of William Wallace from here on out.

Charlie Sheen

The offense: In 2005, the actor told his then-wife Denise Richards “I hope you rot in f***** hell. You’re a piece of s***, f***** liar. … I hope I never f***** talk to you again you f***** c***. You’re a coward and a liar and a f***** n*****.”

Career impact: He apologized, divorced and continued with his role on “Two and a Half Men.” Years later he was arrested for a domestic dispute and said he would take a little hiatus while seeking rehab. He came back to the show, signed a new deal that’s worth a reported $1.78M per episode. So, we’re not seeing much of a long term career impact here.

Michael Richards

The offense: In 2006, the comedian went on blast against a heckler in Los Angeles, saying “Shut up! Fifty years ago we’d have you upside down with a f****** fork up your ass!” He also said some dropped some nasty n-bombs.

Career impact: He had a very awkward apology on David Letterman’s show. He appeared on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as himself and acknowledged the incident in a rather funny manner. As far as a career impact, his career pretty much ended with Kramer a while back. This just solidified the end.

Shaq

The offense: The basketball giant said in 2003, “Tell Yao Ming, ‘Ching-chong-yang-wah-ah-soh.’”

Career impact: Considering Shaquille O’Neal has done very little that’s been considered serious in his career (besides winning NBA titles), there was little fallout. Even Yao brushed it off. He actually has his own reality show on ABC. So it had no impact on his career.

Don Imus

The offense: In 2007, the radio show host called the Rutgers women’s basketball team “nappy headed hoes” during a discussion with his executive producer Bernard McGuirk.

Career impact: Despite apologizing and going on Al Sharpton’s radio show, WCBS shockingly fired him and McGuirk. He was later hired by WABC and is still on the air. Well, we read he’s on the air. We couldn’t find anyone that listens to him.

Duane “Dog The Bounty Hunter” Chapman

The offense: In 2007, Duane was not happy with his son Tucker dating a black woman. He told him on the phone: “I don’t care if she’s a Mexican, a whore or whatever. It’s not because she’s black, it’s because we use the word n***** sometimes here. I’m not gonna take a chance ever in life of losing everything I’ve worked for 30 years because some fucking n***** heard us say n***** and turned us in to the Enquirer magazine.”

Career impact: Dog’s show went off the air for a while. But it eventually came back on and is in its sixth season. Much like Imus, we heard it’s on the air. We couldn’t find anyone that admits to watching this show.

Sen. Robert Byrd

The offense: In the 1940s, then in his 20s, Robert Byrd recruited about 150 of his friends and formed a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. During his “boys will be boys” phase, he wrote to a U.S. Senator: “I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side … Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

Career impact: He went on to serve in the U.S. Senate from 1959 to 2010 — the longest serving senator in U.S. history. He wrote in 2005: “I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times … and I don’t mind apologizing over and over again. I can’t erase what happened.”

Keith Hernandez

The Offense:In 2006, the former World Series champion, now baseball broadcaster, said during a telecast after he saw a massage therapist in the dugout: “I won’t say women belong in the kitchen, but they don’t belong in the dugout.” OK, that’s not very nice. But he didn’t back down three innings later: “I know I made some strong statements that she didn’t belong in the dugout. I stand by those statements. I think it’s a man’s game.”

Career impact: Hernandez is still in the booth as part of the Mets broadcast team, which is his career. So there’s been little impact there. The real story is Hernandez’s mustache, which has stood the test of time and actually was seen out with Emmanuelle Chriqui (they weren’t in a dugout).

Michael Jackson

The offense: In 2005, he was captured on a voicemail saying “They [Jewish people] suck. … They’re like leeches.”

Career impact: Record sales plummeted. But it was years later due to his death, which was not linked to that comment. Seriously, though, we’re not quite sure if there was a career impact. It may have been overshadowed by the whole alleged molestation stuff.

Pauly Shore

The offense: In 2008, Shore said “”White people are screwed. Especially in my industry, they’re screwed. White people are going to be picking cotton for literally like three years.”

Career impact: Shore’s attempt to get attention was about as impressive as his career. We’re not sure what Pauly Shore has done since “Bio-Dome” in 1996. We vaguely remember him on “Entourage.” His unfunny comment was about a decade after his ‘career’ was screwed with his 1999 “Nash Bridges” appearance.

We know there’s more, and we want to know who you think were the biggest snubs from our list. Leave us your nominees below…just keep it clean, please.

I am so happy that the ugly (inside and out) crazy old gym teacher reaped what she had sowed. She could have gotten her argument across by saying “N word” and not using the word and by not saying “don’t NAACP me” but like Michael Richards AKA “Cosmo Kramer”, she ends up the trash heap of history, a history of her own making. I am so happy that the free market AKA sponsors started to pull their ads (I guess they were exercising their free speech) and she finally realized that she was just another “run of the mill gabby” and her days were numbered. She realized that she was not as smart as she thought she was, finally! The first three times she used the word might not have been in anger but the last eight she was filled with hate, so good riddance.

Palin was the one who got bent over the use of the word “Retard” (she wanted someone fired for using it once), Palin also said that the people have the right to build the Mosque in NY, but out of respect for the 9/11 families they shouldn’t, but I guess this same standard is not applicable to Laura Schlessinger. Do you see the hypocrisy? The problem with Palin is the same when she mistakenly referred to Ronald Reagan Eureka College, being in California and we all know its in Illinois, same thing, she does not fact check anything she is going to say. She is soooo Palin!
