Prisoner Escapes While Guard Sleeps on Job
Security detail has to be such a boring gig. How much action does someone on guard really get? I’d imagine half the reason they’re posted there is to just remind people to not do anything wrong.
It seems like rather cush work. Sure, it has its drawbacks. Most notably the fact they stand there all day, as diagnosed in one of the great Seinfeld episodes. But overall, you just keep the peace and occasionally deal with an jagoff — not asking too much.
But, there are some occupational hazards, like the one that happened down in Fort Pierce, FL this week:
An 18-year-old inmate who escaped from Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute when a juvenile detention officer watching him fell asleep was arrested after his mother turned him over to authorities, according to a recently released affidavit.
You can tell from that excerpt alone there’s so many awesome things about this story.
I do feel bad for the security guard, though. Have you ever waited around a hospital? It’s the most boring place on the face of the Earth.
Sleeping during the graveyard shift of watching a prisoner at the hospital — definitely an occupational hazard.

Ya snooze ya lose…prisoners.
