Official Presentation? Go Get Sloshed!
You’ve spent hours over-tweaking your already perfect presentation. Now all that you really need is courage to present it. If you’ve been getting all anxious and losing on confidence, I have this near-wonderful idea for you. Works well for me but you must try it only after using your own discretion, please!
And the near-perfect, absolutely fantastic and wonderful idea is go get drunk…!!
Why should you do it?
1. Calming Effect: Are you one of those people, who get extremely nervous in front of others and get all heebie-jeebies? If yes, then boozing my friend is a fantastic option to overcome these jitters before speaking up in public. Alcohol is biologically known to have some of the most calming effects, and helps you loosen up a bit. So gulp down that bottle of chilled beer down your throat, right before your presentation!
2. Bravery Follows: Boozing before scary official presentation first calms you down and later triggers feelings of bravery. You would suddenly start ignoring those churlish looks of your boss, which bothered you earlier and get to flaunt your new-found bravery in front of everyone!
How can it backfire?
If you end up doing this for the first time, it could have you suddenly become too brave. If you’ve been following the Helen Keller routine with your boss (i.e. you act deaf, dumb and blind), you could end up confessing all that you thought of him, and his brilliant business ideas. Just make sure you have just enough to get your tongue-in-the-cheek humor rolling, and not too much that you start mouthing venom about your boss and co-workers.
Once when I got caught drunk during my presentation, I got sacked due to some horrible excuses I made. First I started off by blaming our frequent business moves for my sudden anxiety attack, which compelled me to booze before the presentation. Later I remember rambling about some of my jealous co-workers who mixed a strong dosage of whiskey in my fruit punch. Nothing could save me, and I was silently Ann Curry’d.
I’ve been doing this however, in my present job, and it works right for me, as I drink just the right amount to calm down, but not too much to slur my speech. Whenever I get stoned before my presentation, I’ve got some fabulous responses and appreciation for my work, from my bosses. I can only hope it works out well for you too. Good luck!!
