My Office Chair is Crumbling
![]()
Yesterday I realized that my office chair is starting to fall apart. The rubber armrests have dried out and are now slowly crumbling away.
We’ve touched upon protecting your office chair in the past, but what can you do about finding a replacement? On day one of employment, you are given a workspace with an indefinite time period. You aren’t exactly thinking office product preservation, but rather focusing on your actual job.
To think that an office chair upgrade happens every few years is a far cry from reality. And now while we wait for the economy to improve, even the smallest hope is wiped out. That raggedy chair is here to stay.
After Googling for help, I’m left with basically two options. Gel armrest covers and “The Original Chair Saque” (chair covers). Neither of which I will be purchasing. As much as I would like a brand new chair, spending my own cash on ridiculous “band-aid” accessories or even a new chair is a concept I can’t seem to grasp.
On the bright side, the adjustment controls are still functioning and the padding isn’t completely shot. Things could be worse.
I’m looking for ideas here, because I have a feeling I’m not alone.

been begging for a new chair for months. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s impossible to get a new chair if you title doesn’t start with a “D” and end with “irector”.
I think my discomfort might be here for awhile.
Swap with one in a conference room or elsewhere.
Only one solution, flirt with the secretary/admin assistant. I took this to the max and started dating one. After a few weeks, I said in passinf “My chair sucks” and like magic I had the same chair as my boss… true story.
cut up an old pair of jeans or something and just slide it over the armrests…it doesn’t have to look nice, right?
