Man Quits Job To Walk Across America
Matt Green loves walking. A few years ago he started a walking tour group in New York City on weekends.
The escape from his day job as a civil engineer blossomed and evolved into a desire to do more.
So Matt Green departed his Queens home in March and decided he would walk across the country.
Green said on his website:
I’m anxious. I’m not sure what I’m doing with my life. I need an adventure. And I do want to smell the ground and look at grass and birds and trees. I want to savor the country. And there’s no other way to do it save on foot.
He actually picked up and did it. Planning began a year before he left. He lived frugally and maintained his vision. He did tell the Associated Press he’s not doing it to find that missing life direction, but he does hope it’ll provide it. We think it will.

He’s planning on landing in Rockaway Beach, Ore., about 3,000 miles from his launching point of Rockaway Beach, NY. He blogs his adventure on ImJustWalkin.com. There are countless pictures of things we generally don’t notice on car trips.
Green kicked it off with a dip in the frigid Atlantic on March 27 and plans on ending up in Oregon in December (seven months of walking, two months of resting).
