Have You Ever Witnessed a Confusing PowerPoint? Ask the Military
At some point in time, the American military decided it needed to illustrate the complexity of its strategy in Afghanistan. This in turn created what is known through all military ranks as the “Spaghetti Slide.”
The “spaghetti slide” below was used in one of the many PowerPoint presentations provided by the military. Sure, we think PowerPoint is overused in the corporate environment, but apparently it is much, much worse in the military. Now that the slide has been made accessible to the public, it’s time to see just how confusing it is.
Who would have thought that General James N. Mattis of the Marine Corps, the Joint Forces commander, would publicly state what all of us Sheep think to ourselves every day:
PowerPoint makes us stupid.
Even better, one of General Stanley A. McChrystal’s advisers was quoted saying:
When we understand that slide, we’ll have won the war.
Well said, adviser to the General. It’s good know that all we need are a few Flow Chart experts to end this war. Regardless of your metal lapse, I believe we all agree that this PowerPoint slide is utterly confusing.
