Happy Administrative Professionals’ Day 2010

Today is Administrative Professionals’ Day, a recognition I feel is well deserved.
If your job is any sweeter than mine, you probably have an administrative assistant. If your job is anything like mine, your department does. If your job is less sweet than mine, you’re probably asking yourself Should I wear underwear today? Yes, you should.
According to the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP — yep.) website, there are currently more than 4.1 million secretaries and administrative assistants working in the United States, according to U.S. Department of Labor statistics, and 8.9 million people working in various administrative support roles.
And today we say thank you. I know the administrative professional for my department deserves a big thank you, and probably some time off — considering the director of our department could easily star in the upcoming “Nightmare on Elm Street.”
There are some other administrative professionals in my building who shop online all day and play FarmVille, these people deserve the Freddy Kreuger treatment. OK, that’s a little harsh, but they should NOT get recognized today.
But mine should. So, to my admin assistant — you know who you are — and to all administrative professionals like mine, thank you for being awesome. I promise I’ll stop forgetting to ask you about the weekly lunch order!
