“Cocktail Artist” Bartender Fired For Flaming Shot
Who doesn’t remember their first flaming shot?
For me, it was my dorm freshman year. Call me a late bloomer, but I was entranced when I saw a shot of Bacardi 151 ignite.
I am sure 40 year old Albert Trummer remembers his first flaming shot, too. He’ll also remember what might be his last as a bartender at popular New York bar Apotheke.
A barkeep whose flaming liquor show was featured in “Real Housewives of New York City” has been arrested for performing the fiery feat. Authorities say undercover fire marshals arrested Albert Trummer at about 2 a.m. Sunday after he set alight Apotheke’s bar top, where he had poured various liquors.
If you’re not familiar with Apotheke, it’s a swanky Chinatown lounge where the employees wear lab coats and drinks are rather expensive. “Cocktail artists” like Trummer are paid to creatively (and apparently, dangerously) serve drinks. It’s as much as an experience as a watering hole.
For Trummer, that experience also includes an arrest on two counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment. In addition to a fire hazard, we’ll classify that as an occupational hazard. Trummer’s “flaming shot” is much more intense than my “Bourbon Street” shot glass flaming 151 shot.
To get a feel for Apotheke, watch the first minute of this video, and to see Trummer in action, watch the very end of hopefully the only video we’ll ever post from “Real Housewives.”
