CNN’s Roland Martin Suspended For Tweets

0

It’s about time for another reminder to all of you out there on Twitter: If you’re employed, it’s dangerous.

The latest assailant/victim of this snake-like occupational hazard is CNN’s Roland Martin.

Martin took to Twitter to express his thoughts on a Super Bowl ad featuring a rather exposed David Beckham:

People immediately got on Martin, who explained that he was trashing soccer and not making homophobic remarks.

The defense is a stretch at best. Here’s why:

It’s another example of trying to be funny when you’re anything but a comedian. For someone in his position, he should try and not alienate any group of people. Whether you think his tweets are homophobic or not, he is making a bad joke and insinuating people’s potential feelings or opinions could be wrong.

Martin has been suspended by CNN. He’s also apologized for offending anyone.

Again, this isn’t a space for passing judgment. Just please keep your employer in mind when you tweet. What you may not think is an occupational hazard could very well be one.

I’m sure we’ll be back in a few months to give you another reminder.
