3 Small Ways to Help Your Employees Beat the Monday Blues

0

blues-thumbMonday is everyone’s least favorite day of the week; no matter how much you do or don’t love your job, getting back in the work flow after a long, relaxing weekend is harsh on anyone. The sullen moment of returning to your desk space, turning on your computer, and realizing that the week has in fact begun is always a buzz kill, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You might be wondering what you can do as an employer to help your staff start the week off right, and luckily, there are many ways to help your employees beat those dreaded Monday blues.

1. Wear Your Company Pride

As an employer, you help set the mood around the office. If you’re acting just as bummed out about starting the work week as your employees, the negative mood will just spiral downhill. Instead of focusing on how unfortunate it is that the weekend is over, get your employees excited about showing company pride. Make custom printed t-shirts with the company logo on it, and encourage your employees to wear it every Monday. Let it be an incentive by giving out a prize for every time you get everyone in the office to partake; a pizza party, closing one hour early on Friday, a gift certificate, or any other prize you see reasonably fit is a great way to get some good vibes going around the office, and it’s an excellent way to encourage free advertising for your business. It’s a win-win for everyone.

2. Start a Monday Potluck

If it’s one thing that helps lighten up the mood around the office, it’s food. Every Monday, encourage your employees to bring in a dish of their choice, and get everything set out buffet style in the break room around lunchtime. Having a fun, picnic-like break to look forward to will help make Mondays seem more bearable, and any change in the normal routine is a great way to start off the week.

3. Create a Monday Playlist

Music is an excellent resource for energizing and motivating most individuals, so consider making a playlist designed specifically for Monday mornings. Have each of your employees send you an email with two songs that they feel really help get them going, and compile a playlist with everyone’s choices ( including you own). It will be an entertaining way to learn a little bit more about your staff, and starting the week off with a fun tradition will be something your employees will appreciate and enjoy.

Mondays are inevitable, but they don’t have to be such a drag. There are many ways to spice up the beginning of a long week ahead, and remember, it’s the little things in life that can make a world of difference.
